CHALLENGE #1 - PERSONAL RESUME WEBSITE

  • For this challenge, you are going to create a simple 3-page resume website using Adobe Dreamweaver and Fireworks.
  • You will create 2 versions of the site - one using Dreamweaver only and one using Fireworks and Dreamweaver.
  • Follow the instructions below to complete the challenge.

FILE MANAGEMENT

  • Prior to starting the web pages (part 1 and 2), you need to prepare your file/folder structure to keep material organized.
  • In your Web Design folder that you created at the start of the course, create TWO subfolders:  "RESUME_DW" (Dreamweaver) and "RESUME_FW" (Fireworks).
  • Inside each folder, you should create a subfolder called "IMAGES".
  • In the "RESUME_FW" folder (Fireworks), you also need to create a folder named "GRAPHICS".  You will use this folder to save all your original Fireworks graphic files (NOT exported graphics and HTML files).

PART 1 - DREAMWEAVER SITE (2-3 days)

  • Using Dreamweaver (version CS4), you will produce a multi-page website that features the following:
    • Home Page (features "cover letter" information and links to other pages)
    • Work History Page (features personal work history similar to real resume - can make up some content)
    • School History (see above)
  • All pages will include the following:
    • Text links to all pages in site
    • Graphic links to external websites (can use images from web as required or own graphics)
    • Tables to organize information
    • Title text for each page (formatted in Dreamweaver)
    • Well-written text (no spelling mistakes, etc.)
    • Proper page formatting and consistent layout, colours, fonts, etc.

PART 2 - FIREWORKS SITE (4-5 days)

  • Using Fireworks (version CS4), you will reproduce your site created in Part 1.  The site will feature:
    • 3 pages (Home, Work History & School History)
    • Original graphics (titles, buttons, etc.)
    • Rollover buttons for site navigation
    • Consistent graphics, layout, etc. for all pages
    • Pre-set SLICE for inserting an animated FLASH graphic (200 x 200 pixels).  More info to follow!
    • Proper file management (folders, etc.) for exported graphics and HTML files.
  • You will then use Dreamweaver to create all required links to make your site functional and to insert FLASH media.

HOW YOU'LL BE MARKED

  • Your final websites (Dreamweaver AND Fireworks) will be marked based on the following:
    • Completeness (all required components included)
    • Layout and Design (well formatted, easy to read and use pages, consistent design)
    • Navigation (working links, clear navigation from page to page)
    • File Management (all files saved to correct locations and well organized - see above)

WHAT YOU'LL HAND IN

  • All files used to create BOTH websites (organized into two folders created at start of challenge).
  • "RESUME_DW" and "RESUME_FW" folders will be copied to your "HAND IN" folder (in our class folder).
